About Dominic
I’ve always enjoyed maths and problem-solving, which led me to study engineering at university and build a career as an electrical engineering consultant specialising in high-voltage power systems. In my day-to-day work, I use maths constantly to analyse problems, make decisions, and explain complex ideas clearly — skills that translate directly into my tutoring.
Outside of work, I’m a big sports fan, especially football, and I enjoy staying active. I’ve played football from a young age and have always enjoyed being a part of a team.
I enjoy helping others understand things that once felt difficult, and tutoring gives me the chance to do that in a really practical way. I find it genuinely rewarding to see students grow in confidence and start approaching maths with a clearer mindset.
On a personal level, my girlfriend recently returned to university to continue her studies, and tutoring allows me to support both of us financially while doing something I enjoy and find meaningful.

My approach to tutoring is based on what worked best for me when I was a student. I believe that real progress in maths comes from first properly understanding each topic, and then reinforcing that understanding through practice with exam-style questions.
In lessons, I make sure students are confident with the underlying concepts before moving on. Once the foundations are clear, we work through a wide range of past paper questions, gradually increasing difficulty so students learn how topics are tested in exams. This helps students recognise common question types, avoid typical mistakes, and develop clear, structured methods that exam markers reward.
I place a strong emphasis on exam technique — not just getting the right answer, but showing the correct working, managing time effectively, and picking up marks even when a question feels challenging. This combination of understanding first, then focused exam practice, helps students feel more confident and perform more consistently under exam conditions.
