About Riley
My name is Riley, and I have been working as an educator for four years. I started off as just an assistant in an afterschool program helping students with homework, but my love for teaching only grew from there. I've been helping students take math problems that seem impossible and turning them into games and contests for a long time now. I want to make sure that by the time we're done with a lesson, you could confidently explain what we talked about to your parents, siblings, or even friends!

When I create lessons plans I follow the 5 E's Method: engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate. It's a process of (1) getting the student interested in the lesson by doing something fun/interesting related to the topic, (2) doing a hands-on activity to deepen understanding, (3) seeing if the student can describe the topic/technique in their own words, (4) seeing if they can apply the technique in a broader context, and (5) seeing if the student can take what we've learned and explain it in their own way or create their own problem to solve.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my on-the-ground experience as an educator and success coach for almost four years now. I know the ins and outs of not only teaching math, but engaging students and getting them interested.
