About Sarah
My name is Oyibode Sarah Afoke, I am a Christian, I am single and a final year Student of Early
Childhood Education at the University of Benin, Edo State Nigeria. Aside being very passionate about teaching, there are so many errors that I have personally experienced as a learner during tutorials which I hope to correct in my little way. Learners are often regarded, especially in most parts of Nigeria as people who are empty and teachers or educators pour in all sorts of knowledge into them without considering whether or not if this knowledge is needed or useful to the learners. Learners' opinions are completely ignored as teachers lord over them. This is an error which must be stopped at all cost. Learners should freely contribute and participate during lessons, they should be allowed to make some decisions during lessons. This and many others is what I hope to achieve in the course of teaching.

Private tutoring requires a great deal of patience, a proper understanding of the subject and most importantly an understanding of the learner or student as the case may be. There are different categories of learners; slow, average and fast learners who learn differently and at their own pace. This knowledge is paramount in knowing whatever approach to employ in tutoring. Different approaches could be used pending on the subject and the learner. Basically, whether fast, slow or average I do not recommend teaching in abstraction i.e just theory or rote memorization. I try to build a relationship with learners where they are free to air their views and contribute immensely during tutorials and I ensure to make available concrete so that learners can see touch and feel what they've learnt. This aids in faster remembrance of what has been taught. This approach is best for every type of learner.
