About Ojeniyi
I’m Mrs. Ojeniyi Taiwo and I have taught in several schools, and I teach because I love to see students succeed.
Why I teach?
Because I know how it feels when a subject is hard. I want to be the teacher I wished I had - patient, clear, and focused on results.

*LESSON NOTE*
*SUBJECT*: Mathematics
*CLASS*: JSS 1
*TOPIC*: Fractions - Addition and Subtraction
*DURATION*: 1 Hour
*DATE*:
*BEHAVIORAL OBJECTIVES*
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. Define a fraction
2. Add and subtract fractions with the same denominator
3. Add and subtract fractions with different denominators
*INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS*
Whiteboard, Marker, 2 Oranges, Cut paper to show parts
*LESSON CONTENT*
*1. INTRODUCTION 5mins*
Teacher: "If I cut 1 orange into 4 equal parts and you eat 1 part, what fraction did you eat?"
Revise: "What is a whole number?"
*2. EXPLANATION 15mins*
*What is a Fraction?*
A fraction shows part of a whole. It has 2 parts:
`Numerator / Denominator`
Example: `3/4` → 3 is numerator, 4 is denominator
*Rule 1: Same Denominator*
Just add or subtract the numerators.
Example: `2/5 + 1/5 = 3/5`
Example: `7/8 - 3/8 = 4/8 = 1/2`
*Rule 2: Different Denominator*
Step 1: Find LCM of the denominators
Step 2: Make them the same
Step 3: Add or subtract
Example: `1/2 + 1/4`
LCM of 2 and 4 = 4
`= 2/4 + 1/4 = 3/4`
*3. CLASS ACTIVITY 20mins*
Solve on the board together:
1. `1/3 + 2/3 = ?`
2. `5/6 - 1/6 = ?`
3. `1/2 + 1/3 = ?`
4. `3/4 - 1/8 = ?`
Let students try 2 on their own.
*4. EVALUATION 10mins*
1. What is a fraction?
2. Solve: `2/7 + 3/7 = ?`
3. Solve: `1/2 + 1/6 = ?`
*5. ASSIGNMENT / HOMEWORK*
1. `1/4 + 1/4 = ?`
2. `3/5 - 1/5 = ?`
3. `1/3 + 1/6 = ?`
4. `5/8 - 1/4 = ?`
5. Word problem: "Tayo ate 1/2 of a cake. Musa ate 1/4. What fraction did they eat altogether?"
*SUMMARY*
Today we learned that to add fractions, we must first make the denominators the same using LCM
