About Gregory
# About Me
Music has been a huge part of my life for decades. I’m a drummer, percussionist, teacher, performer, recording musician, and lifelong student of music. I studied Jazz Drums and Classical Percussion at Portland State University and have spent years performing in bands, recording projects, orchestras, and pit orchestras for musical theater and ballet.
I’ve played in many different musical settings and styles, including rock, jazz, blues, pop, theater, orchestral music, and percussion ensembles. One of the many bands I’ve been fortunate to perform and record with was Blanket Music, but my musical journey has taken me far beyond any single group or genre.
I’ve also spent much of my professional career in technology as a software developer and CEO. That experience has become an unexpected but valuable part of my approach to music. I enjoy exploring the intersection of music and technology—from recording and music production to electronic instruments, practice tools, performance software, and online learning.
After more than 20 years of teaching, I’ve learned that there isn’t one right way to learn music. Some students want to become better drummers, others want to play in a band, learn jazz or percussion, understand recording, or simply have fun making music. My goal is to help each student develop the skills, confidence, and musical understanding to do what they want to do.
Whether you're picking up drumsticks for the first time or looking to take your playing to the next level, I bring real-world performance experience, teaching experience, and a technology background to every lesson.

I teach virtually any style, from rock, jazz, blues and pop to musical theater, orchestral percussion and more. With over 20 years of teaching experience, lessons are livestreamed from my Oregon virtual studio using acoustic and electronic drums and percussion instruments. I can also help students learn to play with bass, guitar, keyboards and other musicians, along with introductions to music production, recording, performance and practice software.
