About Issie

I am a PhD-qualified biomedical scientist, postdoctoral researcher, university lecturer and experienced academic mentor, with a strong track record in higher education, scientific research and postgraduate academic support.

I hold a PhD in Molecular Therapies for Cystic Fibrosis from City St George’s, University of London, where my research focused on gene editing, molecular therapeutics and translational approaches to treating disease. I also hold a First-Class BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science from Royal Holloway, University of London, alongside postgraduate training in Stem Cell & Regenerative Therapies at King’s College London.

I currently work at postdoctoral research level, leading translational research projects in molecular therapeutics and airway gene editing. My research has involved sophisticated experimental design, gene-editing technologies, quantitative imaging, data analysis and collaboration across leading academic institutions including The Francis Crick Institute, UCL, City St George’s and KUMC. I have also secured an £11,000 competitive Research Pump Priming Award as Lead Applicant, demonstrating my ability to develop research proposals, manage projects and deliver research objectives.

My academic profile is supported by peer-reviewed publication and international conference experience. My research has been published in Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, with further manuscripts under review in Nature Methods and AJP Cell. I have presented my research at national and international conferences and have received awards recognising excellence in both oral and poster scientific presentations.

Alongside my research career, I have extensive university teaching and student supervision experience. At City St George’s, University of London, I have taught undergraduate and postgraduate students across MBBS, MPharm, Biomedical Sciences and Clinical Physiology programmes, facilitating case-based learning, laboratory teaching and academic mentoring. I have also worked as a guest lecturer for MSc Biotechnology and MSc Medical Biotechnology students at the University of Portsmouth.

Importantly, I have direct experience supervising and assessing dissertations and research projects. As a postdoctoral researcher, I have supervised BSc and MSc research projects from project conception and experimental design through laboratory training, data analysis and dissertation preparation. I have also assisted with the assessment and marking of undergraduate and Master's dissertations, providing constructive feedback in accordance with university marking criteria.

This means I understand dissertations from both sides of the process: as a researcher who has completed a PhD and published scientific research, and as an academic who has supervised, supported and assessed student research.
