About Sayali
Hello. I am a Respiratory Physiotherapist currently working with the NHS. I first became interested in teaching while volunteering as an intercultural student with children aged 5-15 years old. I was assigned a task to promote cultural exchange amongst children across schools in Manchester. This was something I wanted to do since I was 15. It made me realise I enjoy working with this age range and therefore confirmed teaching as my career choice. I have scored A in Science and English and have been a gold medallist in my high school. My subsequent 4.5 year Bachelor in Physiotherapy degree was a perfect mixture of various health sciences topics. I have completed the six months rotatory internship, which trained me to work in various departments such as critical care, neurophysiotherapy, musculoskeletal and community health promotion. I have completed MSc Advanced Physiotherapy at Manchester Metropolitan University which polished my skills and helped me gain further knowledge. I have been awarded the prestigious Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship from Manchester Metropolitan University. I have incorporated skills such as effective communication, decision-making, organisation and leadership and received the MMU Future Skills Award in April 2018. My time in school has developed my philosophy of valuing each child as an individual as well as a part of the community. I aim to give children as many learning opportunities and experiences as possible in order to engage, motivate and prepare them for future life. I have in particular come to understand the value of sharing learning objectives and success criteria with children. Knowing exactly what is expected and how they can achieve allows children to focus more clearly on task. It may also facilitate effective self and peer assessments encouraging them to take more responsibility for their own learning. I also believe that various learning styles are a key to effective teaching and learning. When I prepare lessons, I make conscious effort to ensure I am not just catering to visual learners but also trying to see lessons through the learner’s eye. My views on learning style have been influenced by the work of Howard Gardner. He believes that we have multiple intelligences and that every child has a potential to have their own learning style, which best suits their intelligence. My university course, especially my volunteering teaching practice has confirmed my belief that teaching is one of the most challenging, demanding and exciting careers. I take the privilege to be a vital part of numerous many young lives and make a real difference. I thus started teaching Biology as it keeps me more close to my work and helps me teach even more efficiently.

My speciality is in using my medical background to help visualise subjects. This ability, developed as a respiratory physiotherapist in a hospital environment, helps to understand topics and aids solving problems. Once fully understood, Biology becomes much simpler. All that is then required is a little care to avoid unnecessary mistakes!
