About Holly
I have spent over six years helping pianists discover the incredible joy of collaborative music making and versatile keyboard playing. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Piano Performance, which gave me a deep understanding of harmony, rhythm, and improvisation. My true expertise lies in teaching different types of piano techniques specifically for accompanying vocalists, instrumentalists, and large choirs.
I specialize in teaching students how to read lead sheets, transpose keys on the fly, develop strong rhythmic sensitivity, and adapt quickly to various musical styles. My student-centered teaching approach is designed to meet the exact needs of school students, adult hobbyists, and professional accompanists. I have successfully helped students progress from beginner levels all the way to advanced and professional stages of their careers.
I remember coaching a classical pianist who wanted to accompany a local choir but struggled to keep a steady beat when the singer slowed down. My teaching methodology focuses deeply on developing strong auditory skills to help you become a more intuitive musician. We will cover essential ear training for pianists, which includes learning how to identify chords, melodies, and rhythms entirely by ear. I also guide students through specific exercises designed to develop perfect pitch and recognize musical patterns instantly.
This training is incredibly useful for creative minds who write their own music or produce tracks digitally using computer software. For example, I recently worked with a student who had great ideas for songs but struggled to write down the melodies they heard in their head. We practiced identifying interval patterns, and soon they could play any melody on the keys on their very first try without needing sheet music.
This approach is suitable for all levels, from absolute beginners to advanced players wanting to sharpen their listening skills. I am here to support you at every single step of your journey to ensure you excel and gain complete confidence. We will work on simple tricks that make chord progressions easy to recognize in any song you hear on the radio. Together, we will unlock your natural listening abilities and make playing by ear feel like second nature.
