About Orion
I'm a dedicated chess coach with over four years of experience helping students grow in skill, confidence, and competitive results. My students range from complete beginners to advanced tournament players, with my highest-rated student reaching a USCF rating of 1988. Whether you're aiming to win your first game or qualify for state championships, I tailor my teaching to meet you where you are and help you reach your next milestone. My approach to chess tutoring is tailored, practical, and results-driven. A typical lesson begins with a quick review of previous material or games played, followed by focused work on a specific theme—such as opening principles, middlegame planning, tactics, or endgame techniques. I use a mix of interactive exercises, real-game analysis, and structured lessons to reinforce learning and track progress over time.
What sets me apart is my ability to break down complex ideas into simple, actionable steps. I emphasize understanding why a move works, not just what move to play. I’ve helped players climb from beginner to 1800+ strength, and my students benefit from both structured guidance and the flexibility to explore their own ideas with support.
These lessons are ideal for K–12 students, adult improvers, and tournament players rated up to ~1800 (USCF or online). Whether you're preparing for scholastic competition, improving online play, or just exploring the beauty of chess, I’ll help you take your next big step forward.
