About Ateeb

I am 27 years old with a Master's in Data Science. I have been teaching for more than 5 years and would like to continue that passion. I have had a keen interest in numbers and mathematics since early childhood and that has developed into a love for teaching the subject to future students and maths lovers alike.

A practical hands-on approach is taken with real life examples connecting mathematics to everyday use-cases allowing students to really grasp the concepts of each topic. In the first lesson a small introduction of the student is taken in order to form custom-tailored examples to get concepts across.

Find out more about Ateeb

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed an interest in mathematics early in school, fascinated by how numbers and logic could explain so much of the world around us. My passion for private tutoring emerged during my college years when I helped friends and classmates grasp challenging math concepts. Seeing their progress and newfound confidence sparked my love for teaching.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach mathematics, ranging from basic arithmetic to advanced calculus. I particularly enjoy topics like algebra, trigonometry, and calculus, as they form the foundation for more complex problem-solving. It's always exciting to help students unravel these abstract concepts and apply them to real-world scenarios. While I appreciate all math topics, some repetitive calculations, like long division, can feel less engaging-but they are still essential skills to master.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, I had a high school math teacher who inspired me deeply. Their approach to teaching wasn't just about formulas but about understanding the reasoning behind each concept. They made math feel approachable and exciting, instilling in me the belief that anyone can excel in math with the right mindset and guidance.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs patience, empathy, and adaptability. Every student learns at their own pace and in their own way, so it's important to be flexible and find teaching methods that work best for them. Clear communication, active listening, and encouraging a growth mindset are also essential to help students feel supported and confident.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One of my students was really struggling with algebra and felt like they'd never understand it. We worked together to break down the problems step by step, focusing on the 'why' behind each concept. One day, it all clicked for them, and the joy on their face was priceless. Moments like that remind me why I love tutoring-it's not just about learning math, but about helping students realize their potential.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One of the ongoing challenges is the misconception that math is inherently "hard" or only for a select few. I've faced this both personally and with students. It's a mental block that can discourage people from fully engaging with the subject. Overcoming this stigma and making math feel accessible is one of my goals as a tutor.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion is definitely in teaching, specifically helping students realize that math is not as intimidating as they might think. I enjoy guiding students through their struggles, transforming frustration into understanding and even enjoyment. Outside of teaching, I have a passion for problem-solving in general, whether it's through puzzles, logic games, or real-life challenges.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

I think what makes me a Superprof is my dedication to making math approachable and enjoyable for all my students. I strive to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, because that's how real learning happens. I'm also always looking for new ways to make my lessons engaging and tailored to each student's unique needs and goals.
