About Megan

I love to read. And I love to write. English was a subject at school that I found came very naturally to me. Since leaving school I have relied on English more than any other subject so I understand how important it is. I am eager to help bring my passion to the subject when tutoring as I know for many, English can be a bore. Texts like Othello can be interesting and when you stop looking at it as an essay topic, you can see why it is so beloved.

I see this as the most fun way to earn some extra cash while actually helping people. I hope that while I am saving money and working, I will be able to help students get through their Nationals and Highers, whether that is close reading work, poems, short stories, the dreaded set text questions, essay writing or the portfolio.

I am great at proof-reading work, shortening down text to fit the maximum word count and acting as a thesaurus.

About the lesson

I judge my approach based on individual students; the help and approach they need is very personal to them. I am very friendly and flexible meaning I will take onboard what the student is asking for.

Lessons I would typically aim for an hour but if more time is desired I am happy to work with this.

My degree relied mostly on theory work and my essays/dissertation were highly received awarding me with a 2:1. I received an A band 1 in both National 5 and Higher English and have taken part in several writing competitions. I write regularly on a blog.

I am saving up money to go travelling and my dream would be to teach English abroad.

I have tutored before, however, it was through my school and with connections locally. This is my first time advertising.
