About Emma
I am a teacher of life sciences originally from Scotland, UK, but have been teaching in SA since covid kept me (!). I work for a local NPO which aims to bridge the gap between state and private schooling, where I am an educational specialist. I also offer private tuition both face to face and online, although currently I teach mostly online as I'm away from home. I have also recently been teaching a lot more English mostly to students of "ESL", and I'm happy to continue with this also.
My time is now split between South Africa and Armenia, and my ambition is to one day start a cultural exchange between these two very different places.

My first lesson with any new student is offered for free, and this is useful to get to know each other. Over time, between us we figure out what methods are best suited to the individual, as everyone learns differently, and I find a holistic approach best. I'm adaptable in terms of using materials that are suitable for the student and their age, and use a combination of activities as well as homework tasks to engage students. I do have a copy of the CAPS and many other curricula as this is important in preparing students for exams.

My rates are variable and negotiable, as I am aware of the struggles of inequality and strive towards equality. I am always willing to negotiate locally within Soweto and I will not charge for transport within Soweto.
