About the lesson

I am currently doing a doctorate at Oxford University in History of Art having completed my Master's degree there in the same subject. Prior to that I did my undergraduate degree at Edinburgh University.

For the last year, I have tutored English and Maths and have several years experience of teaching English as a foreign language as a certified TEFL teacher.

I have recently been tutoring in person and online, helping students prepare for their 11+ entrance exams, Common Entrance and GCSEs.

I think that a highly interactive approach is crucial for one-to-one tutoring. It can be hard to speak up and clarify any issues that you are having in large classes, so creating a relaxed environment in which tutees feel comfortable to express their ideas and concerns is a key to my approach. History or Art, History and English can be incredibly fascinating and enriching subjects but they are too often presented in a cluttered and dull way. I focus on analysing a range of texts and images in order to form structured and logical arguments. This is a vital skill for all humanities subjects and in later life as well.
