About Annabel
As an aspiring professor, I am extremely invested in my subject. I am well-read on classical philosophy (especially ethical/moral philosophy) and theology, and have a genuine passion for explaining philosophical concepts/literature and conveying their significance in a non-pretentious (if possible...) way. I have found it surprising how similar the content is on my BA course at King's College London to the A Level course; this demonstrates how demanding, but ultimately significant and rewarding, the A Level really is.
At King's I have the privilege of being taught by internationally recognised and respected scholars such as Markus Vinzent, Lydia Schumacher, and Christopher Hamilton.
As mentioned, I have an excellent understanding of the A Level specification and know exactly how to achieve A* grades for this subject. I do not allow my passion to inappropriately spill into the essays, and understand what examiners are looking for and what constitutes a clear but sophisticated analysis.
I also achieved grade 9s in English Language and English Literature at GCSE and an A grade in English LangLit at A Level, so if you need guidance with grammar, written expression, etc, then I am more than happy to help with this.

Ideally I would like to tutor for Religion, Philosophy, and Ethics A Level. I am also happy to tutor for related subjects for a lower hourly rate that can be negotiated.
The exam board is not so important but if you are studying the A Level with OCR then I can guarantee you that I have a solid understanding of how to achieve 36-40 marks per essay and can provide personal example essays that received these marks. Nevertheless, I still have extensive AO1 and AO2 notes on all of the subtopics which span across exam boards.
In my lessons I would first go through the specification for the relevant subtopic. This is key to achieving A* grades as, while it was initially tempting to go well beyond the specification and analyse the information in a more theoretical way, my teacher taught me that this is to be saved for university. After correcting this, I did not achieve a mark below 36 (A*) in any of my essays. I still think that it is beneficial for a student of this subject to have an edge to their work and will try to instil this in a student as much as possible, but I emphasise the importance of remaining focused on the question and presenting arguments in a clear and concentrated way within the confinements of the word count.
Following from this, if my student has not already taken notes on the topic in class, I would go through the topic with them with condensed and prioritised notes.
I would not spend too much time on this however, as it is much more efficient to learn the AO1 through making AO2 tables of the potential questions that could be asked. This gives greater room for engaging teaching, rather than passive information-loading. Here, my student would be tasked with thinking critically for themselves, and then I would provide them with other potential talking points from my A Level notes. My RS teacher, who had an MA in Religious Studies from the University of Birmingham and was extremely passionate about her subject, provided us with excellent revision exam questions which I believe prepared me for the timed exams and secured me an A*. It is not necessary or possible to write practice exams for every potential question, but it is efficient and highly effective to plan for them. In the process of planning, a student should also pick up on the AO1 and accumulate a sophisticated but appropriate set of complementary information from outside of the specification.
I am not formally trained to mark essays, but I would like to provide guidance on essays, and if my student has the time and feels it would be beneficial, I would like to set them essays to do in their own time that I can provide constructive advice on and which they should be able to ask their teacher to mark.
I am happy for students to choose how long their lessons should be, however I believe that 1.5 hour sessions are ideal for a subject that involves so much discussion. I would also like to request that sessions be online for the Summer, unless your child is located within close proximity to, or in, East Yorkshire. When I return to university in September, I will be happy to provide in person classes anywhere London, but will also be happy to do online lessons.

I'm likely to increase my hourly rate once back at university due to time constraints.
