About Nicol
I believe that success in mathematics comes from understanding, not memorising. My aim is to help students develop confidence in their own ability by breaking down complex ideas into simple, manageable steps and encouraging them to explain their thinking throughout each lesson.
Every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching to suit their individual needs and goals. Whether we're revisiting topics that have been difficult in school, preparing for upcoming assessments, or working through challenging exam questions, I ensure that lessons are engaging, structured, and paced appropriately.
I work hard to create a relaxed and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I know that confidence plays a huge role in mathematical success, so I celebrate progress, provide regular encouragement, and help students recognise how much they are improving over time.
Outside of tutoring, I have a genuine enthusiasm for mathematics and education, and I enjoy finding different ways to make difficult concepts accessible and interesting. There's nothing more rewarding than seeing a student have that "lightbulb moment" when something finally clicks.
My goal is for every student to leave each lesson feeling more confident, more capable, and better equipped to succeed both in the classroom and in their examinations.

I'm a qualified secondary Mathematics teacher with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a PGCE in Secondary Education, specialising in Mathematics. I have taught in both a high-achieving grammar school and a high-performing comprehensive school, giving me experience supporting students of all abilities across Key Stage 3 and GCSE.
My aim is to help students build confidence, develop strong mathematical reasoning, and achieve their full potential. I believe every student can succeed in maths with the right support, and I tailor each lesson to suit their individual strengths, areas for development, and learning style.
As a current classroom teacher, I have an up-to-date understanding of the GCSE curriculum and the challenges students face. My lessons combine clear explanations, targeted practice, exam-style questions, and proven teaching strategies to help students make rapid progress while enjoying the learning process.
Whether your child needs help building confidence, preparing for exams, closing knowledge gaps, or aiming for the highest GCSE grades, I provide patient, engaging, and structured tuition that delivers results.
