About Ian
I have extensive experience working in the tertiary sector as both a student and as a Lecturer/Tutor. At Edith Cowan University (ECU) South West, my responsibilities included developing and conducting workshops to improve students’ academic writing and communication skills. I also wrote and produced online educational materials for students. As a result, I was responsible for ensuring a high level of student retention at ECU South West.
I worked closely with both lecturers/students and other professional staff to provide students with an enjoyable and positive academic experience. I enjoy imparting information and I believe one of my greatest skills is the ability to write and explain difficult content in a ‘user-friendly’ manner, which is comprehensible to people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
Furthermore, I possess excellent written and communication skills that were developed during my Honours in English degree at the University of Adelaide (2016) and my employment at ECU South West as a Lecturer and Tutor in the university's undergraduate program.

My approach to learning and teaching is student-centred. My goal is to empower students to be life-long learners with the skills and knowledge to work in a complex world. I am an advocate of the active and inquiry-based approach to learning which includes project-based learning and problem-based learning. I sincerely believe this teaching method encourages students to be independent learners.
