When it comes to explaining the work, I always interact as much as possible with my students, by making them explain the work to me after we covered a lesson and do regular revisions on previous work, before tackling any new lessons. This is to ensure that the student fully understands the work and is comfortable with it before moving on. If it so happens that there are still a few blanks, we work on it together and do extra execises for better understanding. I also don't work within an actual time limit, since some chapters might be more difficult then others to explain which would need more time and excercise, meaning the lesson's duration would depend on how complicated the lesson is.
