About Raahem
I am a passionate CS student currently pursuing my Master's degree at Simon Fraser University with a focus on large-scale data applications. I started programming at the age of 14 and studied CS and advanced mathematics throughout my high school and undergraduate years. I have experience teaching students of multiple age groups, and have served as a Teaching Assistant for 3 advanced courses at my undergraduate university. However, I have found myself struggling many times through this journey and I know the impact a good teacher can have on motivation and understanding. That's the role that I want to play for you. I have a simple rule: there are no stupid questions. You can ask me any and everything that comes to mind related to what we are studying, even if it's something we've gone over before; I'd be happy to do it again. I've been there, and I know the importance of a safe space, a teacher who is engaging, and motivates their student to do their best.

Thank you for considering me as your tutor! I have a strong passion for CS and teaching. My favourite teaching technique to inspire students is to link the topics at hand to their fascinating applications in the real world! Learning logistic regression? Prepare to get your first glimpse into how ChatGPT works! While inspiring students is important, I also know first hand what it's like to be overworked and feel behind in your studies. Therefore, I keep my lectures focused, linking theory with practice and helping you develop the intuition to solve problems on your own rather than giving you the answer. In a typical lecture, I would start with a brief overview of the main topics to be covered in the lecture, followed by 30-40 minutes of actual teaching before going into a 10 minute interactive session where I assign small coding problems and guide you to solve them yourself. I take questions between the lecture as they arise rather than leaving them for the end. I vary my approach according to the student's needs and have experience teaching high school students, and undergraduates (including TAing 3 courses during my undergrad).
