About Ella
Hello! I’m currently completing a Master’s degree in Criminology at the University of Cambridge, which has been my dream for many years. Alongside my studies, I work part-time with Amnesty International and lead a student-run charity supporting women transitioning out of prison — experiences that have allowed me to apply my academic learning in meaningful, real-world contexts. I’m deeply passionate about Criminology and Sociology — so much so that my master’s dissertation explores the nuances of the death penalty in America. Having lived in several countries, including the US, Spain, Thailand, and Malaysia, I bring a broad, culturally informed perspective to my teaching. This global background has strengthened my understanding of social issues across different contexts, enriched my empathy, and enhanced my ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds.

Teaching Methodology and Approach My teaching style is student-focused and adaptable. I start by identifying each student’s strengths, weaknesses, and learning style to tailor lessons effectively. I use a mix of discussion, exam practice, and essay-planning techniques to help students not only understand key concepts but also apply them successfully in assessments. For A-Level students, I place particular emphasis on mastering exam structures and developing strong analytical and evaluative writing skills. I also offer detailed marking and feedback on essay questions at all levels, helping students refine their arguments, structure, and writing style to achieve higher grades. Having lived in several countries — including the US, Spain, Thailand, and Malaysia — I bring a broad, culturally informed perspective to my teaching. This global outlook helps me connect with students from different backgrounds and draw on diverse social contexts when explaining sociological and criminological concepts. Lesson Structure and Length A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes, though I can offer longer or shorter sessions depending on the student’s needs. Lessons often include a short recap, focused teaching on a chosen topic, and practice questions or feedback on written work. I also provide follow-up reading or activities to reinforce learning between sessions. Qualifications and Experience I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Criminology at the University of Cambridge, having achieved a First-Class Honours degree in Sociology from Durham University. I also achieved an A* in A-Level Sociology. I have previous tutoring experience, particularly with A-Level Sociology, and have helped students improve both their understanding of sociological theory and their exam performance. Who My Lessons Are For I offer support for students at A-Level, undergraduate, and early postgraduate level in Sociology and Criminology. Lessons are suitable for anyone seeking to strengthen subject knowledge, improve essay writing, gain confidence in exam preparation, or receive structured feedback on written work.
