The students inspiration & passion is paramount. First we must find it. What is it they love about art? If, for example, it is "breaking the rules" (a common answer among children) than we approach the rest of the lessons around such passions.
We explore examples throughout history & culture, experiment with traditional techniques to figure out ways to reinvent it. Art theory can be disregarded by tutors not just students, however I find it is the key to many little minds if done well. Using the narrative of history to inspire the next generation to create & learn.
