About Lauren
I have spent the last 7 years working in education so have a good understanding of the curriculum and exam expectations students face. Since graduating with a BA in English from the University of Southampton in 2012, I have been working at a sixth form college. Here, I have held a variety of roles and taught at various levels across a wide range of subjects. This has included: being an academic mentor providing one-to-one support for students, being an A Level tutor offering pastoral and academic support, and a teacher of A Level English, GCSE History and GCSE English. I also completed my PGCE whilst teaching and have had this since 2015. One of the advantages of working as a pastoral tutor whilst being a teacher is that I have been able to focus on each student as an individual. This is something I would bring to all of my tutoring sessions. I am currently, solely responsible for the academic achievement and personal progress of 160 students. As a result, I have developed the skills to get to know them in-depth, and set targets based on their needs and learning experiences. This includes everything from understanding their learning styles and study skills, to subject-specific areas of improvement, and validation of their strengths. My approach to tutoring is to learn about the student, and then plan sessions to fit their individual requirements. This means no generic sessions! I pride myself on the work I have done with my students, and the detailed and specific feedback I provide them with. In all my roles I have been successful at helping my students achieve beyond their targets and potential, and guarantee to bring this to my tutoring.
