About Katelyn
I have 20 years of teaching experience, both privately and at the university level. In this time, I have learned how to effectively use lessons to help each student reach their goals and discover their own personal strengths in classical music.

a little bit more about my teaching philosophy and experience...
I am currently on a sabbatical year in Europe, completing research for a first-ever comprehensive history of women in Czech music. It is fascinating music!
I was based in Philadelphia, where I taught for eight years at The Curtis Institute of Music. In addition to teaching piano there, I also taught courses on music history, Baroque performance practice, Czech music, women composers, etc... Depending on the desire of my students, I will weave in information about theory/music history/performance practice into the lessons.
I also did most of my education in Philadelphia at Temple University:
DMA in Piano Performance with musicology emphasis
Professional Studies Certificate in contemporary music
MM in Historical Keyboard Instruments
MM in Piano Pedagogy
I also have studies in specialized skills such as Alexander Technique and Taubman Technique to insure that my students are learning secure and sustainable technique to unlock their musical goals.
In addition to my concert schedule and responsibilities at Curtis, I also maintain a regular private piano studio with mostly online students. I am so appreciative of how this technology erases the disparities of access to good education.
My private students are varied which gives me the opportunity to be in many spheres of musician abilities and musical goals. For example, I enjoy my work with adult amateurs as it helps me to maximize practice techniques for their busy schedules. In my work with younger students, I am amazed at their mental flexibility in their developing brains and nervous systems.
I would love to hear from you and discover how we might achieve your own goals at the piano!! Don't hesitate to reach out...

Perfect! Katelyn is amazing at tailoring her lessons to her student's experience level, interests, and musical sensibilities! She was excellent at connecting with me and speaking about music in the way my complete beginners mind can understand. Looking forward to learning so much more!

As a private student under Dr. Bouska's instruction, I can say without reservation that she is extraordinarily committed to providing her students with the most immersive instruction possible. And it is enjoyable as she takes delight in the progress of her students. Her knowledge of music runs deep which she constantly shares. Her instruction and emphasis on technique is effective and cumulative over time which one can turn back to anytime and employ, as sessions can be recorded. Her comments and critiques are positive and constructive, and she can be humorous! Add to that her extraordinary playing ability and one has at hand what can only be described as a rewarding experience in piano. She is the consummate artist.
When I was in college, a much respected pianist filled in for my usual professor, a Tchaikovsky medalist filled with a great deal of pianistic fire and very little knowledge about pedagogy. At the end of our first lesson he said, “Oh, you’re the one who asks ‘why’. Your teacher warned me.” I asked “But isn’t that a good thing?” and he said “That wasn’t my impression.” Katelyn on the other hand, is the perfect teacher for people who want to know not only what to do, but why (including detailed explanations for the instruments and teaching practices of any given era or composer) and how (providing specific exercises to actually accomplish it). Our discussions of learning processes haven’t just improved my approach to practicing but has also carried over somewhat into my own teaching as a writing instruction. The lessons have always given me something to look forward to.
I had piano instruction as a child and enjoyed playing the piano but a career and family kept me busy and I set it aside. Now I am retired and needed help to re-enter this world of music.
Unfortunately, I live in a small rural area with not much choice for teachers. After two unsuccessful attempts at private piano instruction, I was frustrated and discouraged. I decided to look online for a teacher.
Katelyn was different - she listened and knew what I needed to grow in musical skills and enjoy playing the piano again. Katelyn was able to plan and implement a comprehensive program so I am enjoying music and learning the skills that I need to enjoy music as an adult.
I have no words to express the joy I now experience each time I play. -Elaine B.When I was in college, a much respected pianist filled in for my usual professor, a Tchaikovsky medalist filled with a great deal of pianistic fire and very little knowledge about pedagogy. Katelyn is an amazing teacher! Her modern creative techniques have helped me greatly on practice & learning the music much more effectively than the traditional piano lessons!
When I decided to return to the piano after several decades away and a limited musical foundation, I knew I would need a highly experienced musician who had a broad musical background, great technical skills and an ability to discover where my skills were lacking and how to develop them step by step.
I heard Katelyn perform on her online videos and found her to be an inspiring, dynamic performer. Her ability to teach and develop her student’s musical skills is equally exceptional. She has been able to pinpoint the areas of my faulty foundation and teach me how to build them accurately and then integrate these new skills into my daily practice. I am fascinated and inspired by at the breadth of knowledge and expertise she brings to each lesson. She supports her teaching with suggestions of further study which I find very helpful.
My lessons are entirely online because I live in a different state, but online lessons have worked out very well for me. She provides a link so I can re-listen to our lesson, take notes, and even practice with the recording.
I appreciate how Katelyn listens to my goals, plans my lessons to achieve them, and holds me accountable in a supportive, positive way. She has taught me how to successfully utilize my practice time which has resulted in significant progress this year. One of my goals is to learn music theory, so she skillfully weaves that into the lessons. My love for music has flourished under her excellent tutelage. I highly recommend Katelyn as she is more than a piano teacher as she brings her extensive breadth of expertise, training and experience to shape each lesson.
The lessons are more than just technique. You learn a mental and physical connection to the music which really engages my son.
I have been taking lessons with Katelyn for years. It has been an amazing journey not only learning with deep appreciations of classical music, also a truly self-discovery through her unique & creative teaching. Katelyn teaches me the most effective way of practicing which I can utilize without being impacted by limited time due to work. Katelyn not only is a very talented young musician with amazing achievement, she is also an excellent teacher who inspires me to practice the best I can. I am very happy and fortunately to have her as my teacher!!
