About Robbie
As a tutor, I bring a wealth of practical experience and a strong academic background to our sessions. I believe in creating a supportive and encouraging environment where you feel comfortable asking questions and learning at your own pace.
I am currently a Software Developer for a health tech company, where I apply my skills to build innovative solutions for mental health services. This role, the latest within my seven years of professional software development experience, provides me with a deep understanding of modern technologies and best practices we'll be exploring together.
I hold Master's degrees from both the University of Cambridge and the University of Bath. My MSc from the University of Bath is specifically in Computer Science, providing me with a robust theoretical foundation that complements my practical expertise.
I have experience tutoring programming in the past to both adults online, and children via the educational charity: Code Club.
I understand that learning something new can sometimes feel daunting, which is why I pride myself on being a patient tutor who tailors the speed and direction of the sessions to the student. I really looking forward to passing on my skills and helping you to fulfill your coding potential!

There are a multitude of tools to learn web development available today, including online bootcamps and even the use of AI to guide learning. These are great ways to learn, but you may feel that something is missing before you are ready for a web development job, that is where I can help. I am able to teach and offer guidance to help prepare you for that dream job. I also offer lessons to those who are starting from scratch.
My approach to tutoring is highly practical and project-based. I believe the best way to learn is by doing, so our sessions will be focused on working together on personalized projects that genuinely interest you. Whether you're passionate about photography, gaming, cooking, or anything else, we'll tailor our projects to your specific interests.
I offer lessons for the following languages/frameworks in the context of web development:
- JavaScript
- React
- PHP
- Laravel
- HTML/CSS
However, these languages are usually learnt in tandem as we build a project together.
My teaching methodology centers around active learning and collaboration. We won't just be going through theory; we'll be building and creating together. I'll guide you through the necessary concepts and techniques as we work on your chosen project, providing clear explanations and hands-on support every step of the way. A key goal is that by the end of our time together, we will have created your very own personalized website. This tangible outcome will not only be something you can be proud of but will also demonstrate the practical skills you've acquired.
A typical lesson will be 1 hour long and conducted online for your convenience. I also offer in-person lessons based in Bristol.
No prior experience is required whatsoever. If you're curious about learning new skills and want a hands-on approach, then my lessons are for you.
I welcome students of all ages who are eager to learn through creating and building.
I currently tutor only on weekends.
