I design my class from the student perspective, reminding myself of what was difficult to grasp when first I learned a physics concept. I ask myself what students can do after taking my class? Are they able to master the vocabulary for new topics to describe physical phenomena from everyday life? Can they understand the physical world in terms of numbers? Can they relate the experimental data to testing a theory? Moreover, I aim to convey to students that they can succeed in understanding physics by thoughtfully applying themselves to the task. I compliment their efforts, regardless of the immediate results, as each student learns at his/her own pace. My goal is to promote the development of reasoning ability within and beyond physics.
