About Patrick

I believe in language tuition being accessible to anyone. As a German and Spanish speaker, my goal is to share the enjoyment of language learning with as many people as possible. I've been learning German for 7 years and teaching for more than 3. I achieved an A in A-Level German and was awarded a scholarship in 2021/22 by the Goethe-Institut to take part in a CEFR C1 course. Prior to my move to Berlin, I pushed that level to a CEFR C2. Having finished studying 'Rechtswissenschaft' for two semesters (fully in German!) at the Freie Universität Berlin, I have returned for my final LLB year at the University of Warwick.

As someone who has been a student of German myself, I understand the challenges and will support you in reaching your goals.. My students have gone on to achieve the highest grades and I hope that can be the case for you too. I also aim to share my own experiences so you can feel closer to the culture in the German-speaking countries, and pick up on those little things natives say that aren't in the textbooks. About the lesson

I have helped students prepare for German exams in exam boards across the world, including the UK, Singapore and Hong Kong. I have also assisted in translation of documents from English to German and vice versa for university and work matters. While I can happily help you with this, for those who want to learn German for a different goal, I am here to help you as well!

Fernweh is always a classic.
Why does speaking this language matter to you?
Speakers of German have been on the decline within the UK for decades, and considering that our cultures' overlap in many ways, it is essential that people still continue to learn it as a foreign language here.
What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?
People always say the grammar, but it's logic based and can be picked up largely quite quickly - I would actually say the amount of words that exist.
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.
I only started being interested in the language when I was forced to be on the front row in school, because I talked so much with my friend at the back of the class. That one paid off, I think.
How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?
When I went to Leipzig and Dresden in Summer 2023, it had been my first trip to a German speaking country since before the pandemic. It only occurred to me how far I had come when I was able to navigate everything exclusively in German. If I could manage it, trust me, anyone can.
What makes you a Superprof in language?
I have had dreams in German before, so it must be deep rooted in my brain by this point. For the rest of my credentials, only my reviews and experience can show that.
