About Johanna
Teaching allows me to share the discipline required for mastery. 8 years of experience have refined my ability to guide students through complex classical repertoire.
My Master of Music in Vocal Studies gives me a unique perspective on phrasing and melodic shape. I emphasize rhythm, timing, and essential orchestral playing techniques.
We cover double stops, proper posture, and hold mechanics. My training includes ear training, music theory, and preparing for grade exams like ABRSM and Trinity. I also focus on spiccato and staccato bowing to build your technical foundation.

Many students struggle with the violin because they begin without a clear map. Often, I find that a diagnostic assessment before setting the practice plan provides the most direct path to improvement. I draw upon my 6.0 years of focused tutoring to identify your specific hurdles with rhythm and bowing mechanics. By addressing these foundational gaps, we ensure that your practice time yields visible results.
My background at the Queensland Conservatorium informs how I deconstruct difficult passages into manageable steps. This process remains my favorite part of the job.
