About Amir
My name is Amir Houshangi, and I am a Classical Guitar Instructor with a Doctorate in Music. I have dedicated my life to the study and teaching of music, specializing in classical guitar. My journey in music began in Tehran, where I was born and raised. I earned my initial degrees in music from the University of the Arts, followed by advanced studies at the University of Toronto and the Royal Northern College of Music, culminating in a Doctorate from the University of Montreal. With years of experience teaching at both the university level and in private settings, I have honed a teaching style that is both rigorous and nurturing. My students can expect a structured, yet flexible learning environment where their individual needs and goals are prioritized. I emphasize the importance of technique, musicality, and historical context, using time-tested methods and materials. My professional background is not just rooted in academia, but also in real-world performance and collaboration with renowned musicians. This blend of academic rigor and practical experience ensures that my students receive a well-rounded education in classical guitar. As a Classical Guitar Instructor with a Doctorate in Music, I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to every lesson. My educational background, which includes advanced studies at prestigious institutions like the University of Montreal, University of Toronto, and the Royal Northern College of Music, allows me to offer a unique and comprehensive approach to learning the classical guitar.
I focus on both the technical mastery and the rich history of the instrument, ensuring that my students not only develop their playing skills but also gain a deep understanding of the music they perform. I utilize respected methods and materials, including RCM and ABRSM syllabi for technique, and the works of Graham Wade and Harvey Turnbull for historical context.
