About Lucy
Hello! I’m Lucy, a freelance clarinettist and music teacher based in Manchester. I love helping people discover how enjoyable and rewarding learning music can be, whether you’re picking up an instrument for the very first time, preparing for an exam, or simply want to play music that you love!
I offer lessons in Clarinet, Saxophone, and Music Theory, and I’m happy to teach complete beginners through to more advanced students.
My qualifications include:
-Distinction in Master of Music (Clarinet Performance) from the Royal Northern College of Music, where I studied on scholarship.
-First Class (hons) in BA Music from Durham University
-ATCL Clarinet and Alto Saxophone Diploma
I have been playing the clarinet since I was 10 and have always loved sharing that enthusiasm for music with other people. Alongside my own performing career, teaching has become a really important part of what I do. I particularly enjoy working with children and young people and finding ways to make lessons engaging, encouraging, and accessible. I studied at Durham University and the Royal Northern College of Music, and during my studies took part in a huge variety of ensembles as a clarinet player, including performing in masterclasses, orchestras, and music festivals across the UK and Europe.
I currently teach for Salford and Stockport Music Services, as well as working independently. I have also worked on a range of outreach projects, including visiting primary schools to introduce children to the clarinet and working with young musicians through community music programmes. I am a Mentor at Young Sounds and hold safeguarding qualifications alongside an enhanced DBS.

My lessons are tailored to you. I want students to feel that lessons are a place where they can ask questions, make mistakes, experiment, and have fun!
Depending on your goals, lessons might include:
-Learning songs and pieces that you genuinely enjoy playing
-Building strong technique and musical foundations
-Developing aural skills and musical confidence
-Sight-reading and music theory
-Working towards ABRSM/Trinity or other exams, if you’d like to
-Creating manageable practice routines and goals
-Building confidence for performances or auditions
I also understand that everyone learns differently. Some students love working towards clear goals and exams, while others simply want to play for enjoyment. I’ll adapt lessons to suit your interests, experience, and learning style rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
