The learning of writing certainly passes through the knowledge of Chinese characters. Just for your info: there are tens of thousands of them. I'm from China and I live in Italy since three years.
I'm from Hebei, the cradle of Mandarin; that's why I can teach you Chinese without accents or dialect (unless you ask for it :))
