About Skyler
I'm a Chicago-based exhibiting artist with an MFA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and a BFA from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. After undergrad, I was selected as one of two Painting and Drawing Interns at Anderson Ranch Arts Center, where I learned from and assisted workshops led by some of today's leading contemporary artists. That experience gave me invaluable insight into materials, techniques, professional practice, and many different ways artists approach making work.
During my MFA, I taught university drawing courses for two years, developing my own curriculum while working with undergraduate students from a wide range of backgrounds and skill levels. My hope is that our lessons feel inspiring, encouraging, and challenging in the best way. Whether you're learning for fun, preparing for school, or building a serious studio practice, I'll meet you where you are and help you grow at your own pace. I believe making art should be rewarding, and I love helping students experience the excitement of discovering what they're capable of creating.

I have been pursuing art professionally for 13 years, but I have been an avid drawer since toddlerhood. As an art instructor, I prioritize guiding each student in their individual curiosities and intuition. I love sharing my insight in painting and drawing techniques, the contemporary art world, art history, and the strange and wonderful nature of making artwork. I can tailor my lessons to any level.
My teaching style is flexible and personalized. Some students want to build confidence with the fundamentals of drawing or painting, while others are interested in developing a portfolio, refining technique, or receiving thoughtful feedback on more advanced work. I enjoy teaching everything from observational drawing and realism to more experimental approaches, always tailoring lessons to each student's goals and interests. Beyond teaching technique, I want to help students develop confidence, curiosity, and their own artistic voice.
