About Nia
I am a Chemistry tutor with 9 years of experience and an MChem degree. I have taught over 320 students across GCSE, A-Level, and undergraduate Chemistry programmes. My teaching covers the full breadth of Chemistry including organic mechanisms, physical calculations, transition metal chemistry, spectroscopic analysis, and biochemistry. My strong academic background combined with years of practical teaching experience means I can explain the same concept in multiple ways until I find the approach that resonates with each individual student. I am particularly effective with students who find the quantitative aspects of Chemistry challenging, having developed specific targeted approaches for the mathematical skills most commonly tested at each level. My Chemistry teaching begins with understanding the specific examination board and level each student faces, then building a precisely targeted preparation programme around their identified gaps rather than covering material they already understand well. I introduce organic chemistry through the lens of electron behaviour — nucleophiles, electrophiles, and electron pushing — because this unified framework makes mechanism prediction logical rather than a matter of memorisation. Physical chemistry is developed with careful attention to both the mathematical treatment and the conceptual meaning of each calculation, so students understand why the numbers behave as they do rather than only how to manipulate the equations. I use spectroscopy as a creative problem-solving challenge, introducing students to NMR, IR, and mass spectrometry interpretation through genuine unknown structure elucidation exercises. Practical chemistry skills including titration calculations, gas collection, and data analysis are addressed specifically for students sitting practical papers or coursework components. My approach to examination preparation focuses heavily on the mark allocation structure of each board, teaching students where the easy marks are and how to secure them reliably before investing time in the most challenging material. I provide annotated worked examples for every calculation type the student encounters and expect students to reproduce these without my support before moving forward. My teaching goal is a student who approaches the most demanding Chemistry questions with calm, systematic confidence.
