About Samuel
I have been giving private and university tutoring lessons in scientific fields for five years, with an emphasis on chemistry, biochemistry, and physics. My students see, on average, grade improvements of 8-11% and report having a greater appreciation for the material at the end of the semester than at the beginning.
I have tutored both individuals and small groups, and am able to cater the material to either setting. I graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor's degree in chemistry, concentration in biochemistry, and from Grand Canyon University with a Master's degree in chemistry, emphasis on education.
What I offer as a tutor are personalized lesson plans that are highly adaptable to various situations and conditions. I take pride in helping my students succeed in their coursework and obtain a passion for science that will, hopefully, translate into a professional career in STEM.

As a recent graduate student myself, I understand how college students learn and the support that they need. Most college-level courses are heavily lecture-based. I support that approach, but also know that discussion and experiential learning are vital to the success of a young adult. It's hard to self-motivate when you cannot envision the real-world application of a concept or how that concept is relevant to you. I make it a goal to help you visualize the material and connect it to your own personal interests. It is in that way that I help you learn. I also strive to help teach learning independence so that you are able to rely on yourself. Being dependent on others for learning can be difficult, and by better learning how to study, you can become more independent in your education so that you will no longer require tutoring eventually!
The lessons I offer are lecture-based with practice problems throughout. I will walk you through an example problem so that you can get an understanding of how to solve the problem and why you do each step. I include information on how the material is applied to real-world processes and its importance in both academia and industry, as well as its application in other scientific fields (such as geology, astronomy, biology, etc.). After the lesson, I put together and additional practice problems covering the material that we discussed in the lesson and send it to you by email. The following day I send a solutions sheet so that you can check your work and see the correct steps to solve the problem. Additionally, I search for additional resources, articles, and published papers that are relevant to the material and your interests so that you can do some supplemental reading and see the importance of the material to improve your success in the coursework.
I work with you, the student, to help personalize the lessons as well. If the way I am teaching the material is not conducive to your learning style, we will work together to change that. I want to give you a say in how the material is presented to you so that you can control your learning as well. Scientific material is highly adaptable and I strive to ensure that the lessons you receive are exactly what you need to succeed.
