About Libby
I recently completed my Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and have always enjoyed chemistry and mathematics because they reward clear reasoning and problem-solving rather than memorization. My goal as a tutor is to help students build confidence in STEM subjects and discover that these classes can be logical, manageable, and even enjoyable. My interest in effective learning strategies began in high school while taking AP Chemistry, where I developed study techniques focused on understanding why concepts and equations work, not just how to apply them. These methods helped me earn a score of 5 on the AP Chemistry exam and have continued to serve me well throughout college-level STEM coursework. When tutoring, I emphasize building strong conceptual foundations and teaching students how to approach unfamiliar or “curveball” questions by combining skills and reasoning through problems step by step. This approach not only improves grades but also prepares students to succeed independently in future math and science classes.

I teach mainly middle and high school level science and mathematics, including AP level and studying for AP exams. I focus on the "why" for how problems are done and use many practice problems to reinforce understanding of the material. In a typical lesson, the student can bring in specific problems that he/she/they need help doing, or we can go over topics more generally with practice problems provided by me. I listen to your student to hear what they need to focus on, rather than wasting time giving generalized lesson plans.
