About Gavin
My passion for chemistry developed through curiosity about how invisible molecular interactions shape the physical world around us. I pursued an M.Sc in Chemical Education, where I studied both advanced chemical theory and effective teaching strategies that support deep understanding. Over the past 12 years, I have worked with students at various levels, helping them replace confusion with clarity through structured guidance. I teach with patience, empathy, and adaptability, recognising that chemistry can feel intimidating without proper support. I focus on breaking topics into manageable steps and using visual explanations, real-world examples, and clear reasoning to build confidence. Many students who once felt discouraged gradually develop independence and trust in their problem-solving abilities. Outside teaching, I stay engaged with chemistry through continuous learning, curriculum development, and scientific reading. Teaching chemistry is deeply fulfilling to me because I witness students grow confident, precise, and curious about the natural world.

Chemistry becomes much more approachable when students understand how abstract symbols represent real molecular behaviour. In my lessons, I guide learners through atomic structure, bonding, periodic trends, stoichiometry, reaction types, acids and bases, energetics, and solution chemistry using structured, step-by-step explanations. I focus on helping students visualise chemical processes so concepts feel connected rather than fragmented or overwhelming. Lessons are carefully adapted to each student’s academic level and learning style. Beginners focus on chemical language, formulae, units, and foundational reaction understanding. Intermediate learners work on multi-step calculations, equilibrium concepts, redox reactions, and reaction pathways. Advanced learners explore kinetics, thermodynamics, analytical reasoning, and exam-focused problem strategies. Guided practice, worked examples, and reflective correction are included in every session. Chemistry lessons also help students develop patience, accuracy, and logical thinking. As learners gain clarity, they approach complex problems with greater confidence and reduced anxiety. My goal is to help students see chemistry as an organised, logical subject that rewards curiosity and thoughtful reasoning rather than memorisation alone.
