About Ashly
Hi! I’m Ashly, and I’m passionate about chemistry, not just as a subject, but as a way to see and understand the world. I studied chemistry at the University of Chicago and have hands-on research experience in material science at Argonne National Laboratory (nuclear department) and in cancer research at City of Hope. Working in these labs gave me a deep understanding of how chemistry applies in real-world contexts, and I love bringing that perspective into tutoring. I also know what it’s like to struggle with chemistry; in high school, I often barely passed tests and felt completely lost. That experience shaped my approach as a tutor: patient, step-by-step, and focused on helping students understand why things work, not just memorizing formulas. I’ve worked with high school students, including ESL learners, helping them grasp concepts, solve problems, and gain confidence. My goal is to make chemistry approachable and even enjoyable. Whether you’re aiming to improve grades, prepare for exams, or just feel more comfortable in class, I’ll help you build real understanding and confidence, one concept at a time.

My lessons are all about building real understanding — the kind that sticks with you long after class. I focus on intuition and concepts first, so you don’t just memorize formulas, you actually understand why things work the way they do. We start by connecting the topic to things you already know or see in the world, then break down the concept step by step. I use diagrams, analogies, and problem-solving, all designed to make ideas click naturally. You’ll practice applying what you’ve learned, but always with understanding at the center so that even tricky topics feel manageable.
A Typical Lesson Includes:
-Warm-Up & Quick Review: Activate prior knowledge and connect to new material
-Concept Exploration: Intuitive explanations with visuals, real-world examples, and analogies
-Guided Practice: Work through problems together, applying concepts step by step
-Independent Application: Try problems on your own with feedback
-Wrap-Up & Preview: Summarize main ideas and set up the next lesson
By the end of our lessons, my students don’t just know how to solve problems, they understand chemistry intuitively, feel confident tackling new material, and start to see how the subject connects to the real world.
