About Leonardo
I am graduated in Chemical Engineering, currently living in Canada completing a Masters of Engineering in Chemical and Petroleum Engineering with 4 years of experience in the pulp and paper segment, exact sciences tutoring, English and Microsoft Excel teaching. I have worked on several projects in my university, including voluntary work in Brazil and right here in Calgary, AB.
Currently, I am a volunteer math tutor at the YMCA Calgary and an exact sciences tutor at Tutor Doctor Calgary. These are very rewarding experiences, because you really feel that you are helping people from all ages.

My ultimate aim is to teach my students to become independent learners. The buzzword in both high schools and universities these days is critical thinking: encouraging students to analyse subjects in a deeper, more analytical manner. I usually do this by asking questions that don’t just have a ‘yes or no’ answer or by applying the Socratic method to point out illogical conclusions made by my student. After teaching a particular topic, I test my student’s comprehension through additional problems and games. I use frequent pauses to ensure the student has understood what I have just been explaining, among several other methods.
