About Will
Hi, I’m Will, a Chartered Architect with over 25 years of experience in the construction and architecture industry. My career has taken me from hands-on craftsmanship to architectural practice and academic mentoring, giving me a unique perspective I love sharing with aspiring architects. I began in joinery and cabinet-making, developing a strong foundation in detail and design, before transitioning to drafting for large retail fit-out projects. For the past 14 years, I’ve worked as a Chartered Architect on diverse projects, including Automotive Retail, Ecclesiastical Architecture, Charity Housing, and Medical Facilities. As a university lecturer on a RIBA- and ARB-accredited course, I’ve mentored countless students, fostering a learning environment that’s fun, supportive, and tailored to each individual’s pace. I’m passionate about inspiring the next generation of architects through a balance of creativity, practicality, and a love for the craft.

My Approach to Tutoring and Teaching I bring a wealth of expertise to my tutoring sessions, drawing on my experience as a degree lecturer on a RIBA and ARB-accredited course and as a concept and project architect for a Chartered architectural practice in the South East. My sessions are tailored to support aspiring architecture students in building a strong foundation for their academic journey. Techniques and Teaching Methodology My teaching style emphasises both technical and creative aspects of architecture. I focus on: • Architectural Drawing Basics: Introducing students to essential tools and techniques. • Basic Design Strategies: Helping students explore spatial design principles. • Site Analysis and Precedent Styles: Teaching how to evaluate and draw inspiration from historical and contemporary projects. • Developing Visual Libraries: Encouraging students to collect and analyse visual references to inspire their work. • Historical Context: Connecting design strategies to their cultural and historical significance. I also provide mentorship for university preparation, including guidance on choosing the right course and writing recommendations for students I’ve worked with. Typical Lesson Length Lessons are typically 1-2 hours, depending on the student’s objectives and time availability. I offer flexible scheduling to accommodate intensive preparation when needed. Qualifications and Experience I hold the following qualifications: • HNC Construction • BA Hons Architecture • Masters of Architecture • Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Architectural Practice These academic credentials, combined with my 20+ years of industry experience and role as a university lecturer, allow me to provide both theoretical and practical insights to my students.
