About Heather
I have 25 years of teaching experience in all subjects elementary through 8th grade. I have a Master's degree in teaching Math. I also specialize in learning disabilities and behavior. I have both online and in person experience tutoring. I have also authored a book about strategies for children with disabilities.
For Adult level learners, I can help with written papers as well as basic math classes. I would be a great resource for someone working toward their GED as well.

I always start with a quick assessment of what the learner knows and specifically where he or she is struggling. This allows me to pinpoint weaknesses while encouraging confidence. This is especially true in Math where many have an opinion that it is too hard.
I approach every lesson from a real life aspect to make it meaningful. I teach the same concepts in different ways. It's a waste of time to teach in the same way if you did not understand it the first time, so I try a different approach based on student strengths.
I also work on testing strategies and short cuts where appropriate
