About Maryh
大家好dà jiā hǎo! My name is Maryh. I am fluent in both Chinese and English and bring a strong international educational background to my teaching. I grew up in Harbin, China, completed my high school education in Canada, and later pursued my university and postgraduate teaching studies in Sydney, where I also began my professional teaching career. This multicultural learning journey allows me to better understand the needs of students from diverse backgrounds who are learning a second language, and to adapt my teaching to their learning styles and goals.
I am a qualified and experienced educator with in-school teaching experience and a solid understanding of major assessment frameworks and examination standards. I am friendly, patient, and responsible, and I strive to create a supportive learning environment where students feel confident to use the language.
Whether your goal is exam preparation, overseas study, travel, or everyday communication, I tailor my lessons to meet your individual learning needs. Lessons are available both online and in person, and small-group sessions are also offered at a discounted rate. Please feel free to contact me. My Approach to Tutoring & Teaching
Teaching approach & methodology
I use a personalized, student-centered approach, adapting each lesson to the learner’s goals, level, and learning style. My teaching is informed by research-based Chinese language pedagogy, with a strong focus on real-life application. Lessons include contextualized speaking practice, situational dialogues, and game-based activities to build confidence and fluency (All teaching content and methods can be adjusted to meet individual goals and preferences).
I am very familiar with the NSW syllabus, HSC requirements, and HSK standards, and I align lessons accordingly when students are studying for assessments or exams.
Typical lesson length (Based on individual attention span)
Teenagers: 60 minutes
Adults: 60–120 minutes, depending on learning goals
Qualifications & experience
I am a NESA-accredited secondary school Chinese (Mandarin) teacher with practical classroom experience in Australian schools. I have also taught adult learners at different proficiency levels, both for academic and personal learning purposes.
Who my lessons are for
I teach students of all levels and ages, excluding pre-school children. This includes primary and secondary school students, university students, and adult learners — from beginners to advanced levels.
