• 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

  I speak Spanish fluently because of my origin. I am from Guatemala and was born in Guatemala City but from a young age moved to west of the country. I have lived in Quetzaltenango for many years which is famous for its Spanish schools - many people travel here to learn the language.

• 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

  Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra I would say is the Shakespeare of the Spanish speaking world. His book "Don Quijote de la Mancha" is a classic that is taught across the world.

• 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

  The Spanish phrase that I like most is:
  El amor siempre es la respuesta
  Love is always the answer
  
  I am a romantic at heart!

• 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  Aside from the fact that it is a beautiful language it is important to me because it is part of my roots and culture.

• 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

  I think many people struggle with the complexity of the grammar tenses. I always try to make the classes engaging and form activities that identify the different necessities for each student.

• 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

  I had a student who was 83 years old and one of his dreams was to learn Spanish. With a lot of effort he managed to do it and was one of my proudest moments.

• 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

  Spanish is a very dynamic language and travelling around will let you meet people who use different expressions or colloquial terms.

  Simple - because I love my profession.
