About Emilio
I’m Emilio — an English teacher, musician, and someone who has built a life across languages and cultures.
Originally from China, I studied in the United States before moving to the UK. I know what it takes to go from understanding English in a classroom to using it when the stakes feel real: at university, at work, or in a room full of people you’ve just met.
I’m CELTA-qualified, hold a master’s in Strategic Communication from the University of Liverpool, and have taught over 100 international students. Teaching in a professional language-school environment has taught me to prepare carefully, explain clearly, and adapt when a student needs a different way in.
You can expect lessons with a clear purpose, honest feedback, and a teacher who pays attention. You won’t need to pretend you understand something — questions are welcome, and we can work through a difficulty without making it a big deal.
Outside teaching, I tour, play festivals, and make music. That part of my life brings curiosity and humour into the classroom.
I take your goals seriously. There’s still room to enjoy ourselves along the way.

You bring the ambition. I’ll bring the lesson plan.
Maybe you want to hold your own in a conversation, write with more clarity, prepare for an exam, or finally understand the grammar you’ve been guessing. We’ll build your lessons around that.
I start by finding out what you can already do, where you get stuck, and how you want to use English. Lessons combine clear explanations, guided practice, and tasks that put the language to work. Expect specific feedback, chances to try again, and regular check-ins on your progress. Your interests help shape the material — music, culture, work, travel, or something you could happily talk about for hours.
Lessons typically last 60 minutes, with time to revisit previous learning, work on a focused goal, and finish with practical next steps.
I’m CELTA-qualified and have taught over 100 international students in a professional language-school setting. I hold a master’s in Strategic Communication from the University of Liverpool and a bachelor’s in Public Relations from the University of Oregon, bringing experience of studying and communicating in both the US and the UK.
My online lessons are for adults from beginner to advanced level. We can work on speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, or IELTS preparation. Whether you need patient support with the foundations or detailed feedback to sharpen your English, you’ll have space to ask questions, make mistakes, and develop your own voice.
