Find out more about Sam

  • What made you passionate about this language? Family origins, personal interest, an inspiring teacher, or maybe a great love?

I fell in love with English because I lived and worked in different places like South Africa, London, France, Belgium, Germany and Italy, and I saw how important it is to communicate with people from all around the world. Also, when I worked in all of these different countries, I saw how speaking English really helps in connecting with people, learning about new cultures and making friends.
  • Which character, historical or invented, do you think fully represents the culture linked to this language?

I think Sherlock Holmes is a great character who represents English culture. He's smart, speaks really well, and shows a lot about English life, culture and history.
  • Is there a word, expression, tradition, or cultural habit that amuses you or makes you laugh?

I always find it funny when people say "raining cats and dogs" to mean it's raining really hard. It's a funny way to talk about the weather!
  • Why is it important for you to speak this language?

Speaking English has helped me a lot, especially when I worked and travelled in different countries. It opens up so many opportunities and lets me connect with people from everywhere.
  • What, in your opinion, is the most difficult characteristic encountered in learning this language?

English can be tricky because of how we say words, use expressions and different meanings of words and how you use them in phrases. Sometimes, it's hard to understand the little things people say in everyday conversations.
  • Tell us a funny or special anecdote related to your education or a lesson experience!

Once, when I was teaching, a student thought the saying "hit the hay" meant actually hitting hay like punching it! We all laughed a lot, and it showed me that learning can be so much fun as well.
  • Help us get to know you better: tell us about your passions, your travels, your hobbies!

I love learning about different cultures, trying new foods, and meeting new people. I've been lucky enough to travel to many places and work with people from all over the world. I think everyday is a blessing and I'm really grateful for all these experiences.
  • What makes you a true Superprof, besides the ability to speak and express yourself in multiple languages?

As a teacher, I focus on making lessons fun and personal. I've taught for more than 700 hours, helping people feel confident speaking English. I want my students to talk about things they love, like food, travel, and hobbies, so they can use English in their everyday lives.
