About Alex
Alex is a professional cellist based in London and Dublin and is able to teach all ages and abilities ranging from beginner to professional providing in person and online teaching. Currently he is tutti cellist in National Symphony Orchestra Ireland a post he has held since June 2025. Alex has graduated with a Master's degree from Guildhall School of Music and Drama studying with Tim Lowe.
Prior to his Master's degree, Alex achieved a first class honors degree in Music from Durham University. Alex is a highly experienced and accomplished performer in solo, chamber and orchestral works. Over the past few years Alex has worked with leading ensembles including NSOI, Ulster Orchestra and Dorset Opera Festival.
Alex has participated in solo and chamber music masterclasses with leading musicians such as Andras Keller, Ralf Gothoni, Adrien Brendel, Linos Piano Trio and members of the Endellion and Takács Quartets. As a teacher Alex is passionate about sharing the wealth of knowledge his previous teachers Tim Lowe and Sue Lowe have given to him.

My aim is to work with students to discover their aims and goals with their cello playing to take them to the next levels and transform their technique and most importantly their sound.
I can work with any ages regardless of ability level (enhanced DBS). I am happy to work with students who want to take grade exams, want some extra help with repertoire or just for the fun of developing and improving on the cello!
During the first few lessons we will discover what the student wants to achieve from these lessons and develop a plan of action for the subsequent lessons. I am flexible with lesson lengths and I am happy to travel to students in order to teach. I am also an orchestral sectional tutor coach and also play lots of chamber music and I am very happy to teach in these areas or to adapt lessons to fit these areas of interests in.
