About Матвей
I am Matthew, an incoming Honors Mathematics student at the University of Waterloo, one of the strongest math programs in the country. My background is in competitive mathematics and computer science, with a track record across national-level contests: I placed in the top 15 nationally at the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad, finished top 3 at the Canadian Junior Mathematical Olympiad in grade 10, and have competed extensively in math and computer science competitions.
Years of training for and solving difficult problems gave me both deep command of the material and a clear sense of how strong problem-solvers actually think. I genuinely enjoy explaining ideas and watching a concept finally click for someone, and I am patient, reliable, and committed to helping each student make real progress.
I moved to Canada from Ukraine, and I speak English, Ukrainian, and Russian, so I am glad to work with students in any of those languages.

I tutor high school math, computer science, and competition preparation, working with students from middle school through senior high, as well as anyone training for contests like the AMC, CEMC competitions, or competitive programming. My competition background, including a top-15 finish at the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad, means I have spent years solving hard problems and I know how to make that thinking accessible.
My approach is built around understanding rather than memorization. A typical lesson starts by checking what you already know, then works through targeted problems where I explain the reasoning step by step and let you try the next one yourself. I adjust pace and difficulty to each student, so lessons stay challenging without being overwhelming.
What sets me apart is the level I can teach to. Beyond the regular curriculum, I can take strong students into olympiad and contest territory that most tutors cannot reach, while still being patient and clear with students who simply want to feel confident in class. Whether your goal is a better grade, a solid foundation, or a medal, I will meet you where you are and help you get there.
