About Sam
I am a historian with more than a decade of teaching experience. After graduating from the University of Cambridge with a Double Starred First — including the highest mark in his year — heIcompleted a PhD in American History. I was subsequently appointed a Fellow of Peterhouse, Cambridge, where he taught both undergraduate and postgraduate students and published a range of popular and peer-reviewed articles. My first book, on the history of police reform in America, is forthcoming with Columbia University Press.
Alongside his university career, I have worked as a private tutor for the past 10 years. I have taught students from GCSE through to university level across a wide range of subjects, including History, Politics, Economics, and Oxbridge admissions preparation.

I believe that the most important aspect of learning is pupil enthusiasm. I usually try to encourage this in History by giving the student audio-visual materials (films, documentaries, music, period dramas) which depict the period. After this, exam technique is necessary, including essay structure skills as well as shorter format answers.
