About Chloe
I'm Chloe and I'm from North London. I really love Classics and believe in having fun with it! My personal interests within Classics lie in language and literature. During my undergraduate study at Durham I fell in love with Latin love poetry, and I wrote my dissertation on feminist theory and Ovid, before continuing this research during my MPhil at Cambridge. Besides this, I am also interested in etymology and classical reception of art.

I teach Latin at all levels, and I have 10 years of experience of reading Latin. From personal experience, I believe that at all stages of learning, encouraging independence and confidence in a student is key. Particularly in the case of Latin, familiarity with reading the language can only be gained through regular practice. Therefore, my sessions should be less like lessons, and more like a discussion-based, supported and guided read-through of a text. For example, a typical session structure for tackling GCSE and A Level Latin language papers will involve translating an unseen text, followed by focus on any particular areas of grammatical difficulty the student may have encountered while reading. If necessary, I can offer further focus on other elements such as parsing, scansion and prose composition. For literature papers, time will be divided between discussing the historical context of the set text, planning essay questions and going over the grammar of particularly difficult sections of the text. Generally, I can also offer advice on how to revise and practise reading Latin effectively, and what tips and tricks I have for making studying a bit less dull. I also have access to a wide variety of unseen extracts, scholarly articles for extra reading and grammar resources for students to use outside of lessons, if needed.

I know Chloe from university, where she specialised in Latin literature. She presented papers on her research, and came across as both engaging and knowledgeable, with a thorough understanding of grammar, vocabulary, and style. I recommend Chloe as a tutor, because not only does she have a clear manner of explaining concepts, but because of her passion for the subject, she makes learning interesting and exciting.
Chloe and I were at university together, where we shared several language modules.
She has an obvious love for teaching her subject which comes across in her relaxed, enthused style. Not only is she genuinely passionate about many aspects of Latin language and literature, she has often shared her enjoyment of tutoring with me. Often I learn new things from her in the course of our discussions about Classics.
I'd highly recommend her as a latin tutor; not only is she extremely knowledgeable but her love for the subject really shines through and she is adept at communicating in an approachable and easy-to-understand manner.Chloe is a very knowledgeable tutor with a great expertise and evident confidence in Latin, plus the patience and know-how to impart it at an understandable level. This knowledge extends to both the grammar of the language and its literature, so Chloe can most definitely provide a thorough and holistic Latin education!
