About Zachary
I have been Called to the Bar of England and Wales and am currently completing the Solicitors Qualifying Examination pathway, giving me experience of both the barrister and solicitor routes into the legal profession. Alongside my academic and professional legal training, I have worked as a paralegal and previously held the role of Data Protection Officer for a UK company.
My professional experience has given me a practical understanding of how legal knowledge is applied outside the classroom.
I know that studying law can sometimes feel overwhelming. There is a considerable difference between remembering what the law says and being able to identify the relevant issues, apply the law to unfamiliar facts and communicate a convincing legal argument. These are the skills I particularly enjoy helping students develop.
Whether you are struggling with a particular undergraduate topic, trying to improve your problem-question or essay technique, preparing for professional legal training or simply want to become more confident in your legal reasoning, lessons will be tailored to the areas in which you would most benefit from support.
My aim is ultimately to help you become a more confident and independent law student, with skills that remain useful beyond the particular topic or assessment we are working on.

My approach to tutoring focuses on helping students understand how to think and reason as a lawyer, rather than simply memorising legal rules. I aim to identify the areas a student is finding difficult, explain the underlying principles clearly and then work through practical examples to develop their confidence in applying the law.
Lessons can be tailored to the individual student's needs. This might include working through legal problem questions, planning and structuring essays, analysing cases and legislation, developing legal research skills, practising advocacy or reviewing difficult areas of a particular subject.
Where appropriate, I use practice questions and examples to help students move from understanding the law in theory to applying it effectively.
A typical lesson is 60 minutes, although longer sessions can be arranged where appropriate. For problem-question or essay-planning sessions, students can provide the question or topic beforehand so that lesson time can be used effectively. My aim is not to write assessed work for students, but to give them the skills and understanding needed to produce stronger work independently.
