About Sonya

Returning to mathematics after a long hiatus is often intimidating, and I admit my feedback can sometimes feel blunt to those unaccustomed to directness. My role is to bridge the gap between technical execution and the sound judgment required to solve complex problems, which is why I specialize in area and volume, implicit differentiation, and curve sketching. Optimization problems and applications of derivatives are areas where I see students struggle the most, yet these topics respond well to consistent, rigorous practice.

I focus on developing your intuition so you can confidently tackle integrals, sequences, series, integration by parts, and Taylor series. I'm excited to help you achieve your individual learning objectives.

Clarity emerges when a difficult series finally settles into a logical, predictable pattern on the page. I rely on my BS Mathematics from UC Berkeley to break down advanced exam technique into manageable steps that anyone can follow.

Calculus is fundamentally about understanding the underlying mechanics rather than just memorizing formulas, so we will spend time deconstructing the logic behind your assignments. You will receive immediate corrections on your work because I find that specific, real time adjustments are the most efficient way to correct common misunderstandings.

We will examine the nuances of your current coursework to ensure you have a firm grasp of every concept. My approach is calm and supportive, keeping the pressure low while the academic standards remain high. This is the best method I have found to engineer that moment where everything suddenly clicks for my students.
