I am an Academic Associate in IIM Indore, I have done my Degree in Marine engineering from Directorate of Marine Engineering and Training Kolakata. I am specialised in Maths and Physics . I start my topic with a real life example , suppose I am introducing friction & gravity , then I ask students suppose you are riding a bicycle up on a stiff slope then you lowers the speed and push your paddle with more forces; why? This creates linkages with the topic , and students starts correlating the topic with examples ,this way they gain the concept and it remain lifelong with them. Otherwise just write down formula and copy it in exams is of no use.
