About Rafael
I am a guitar player from Brazil. My relationship to the instrument goes as far as I can remember, and I have played music professionally for over a decade now. I really like to teach Guitar, Improvisation, Music Theory and Harmony and also concepts from the immense musical universe that the music of my home country offers: Bossa Nova, Samba, Baião, and many more. I hold a Master’s Degree from NYU, and since moving to NYC two years ago I became very fond of discovering all the new cultures that the city offers, both personally and musically. As a sideman, bandleader, and in educational opportunities, I have performed, apart from in New York, in New Orleans (USA), Seattle (USA), Los Angeles(USA) and San Jose (Costa Rica), among other places, always with the pursuit for expression through improvisation and reverence for the freedom manifested in many musical expressions across the Americas as the main driving force in my endeavors.

I have a good setup for online lessons, with an interface, microphones and auxiliary camera. I also encourage my students to record themselves playing the exercises and applying the concepts we discuss in class, as I believe that feedback is a very helpful tool.

Best guitar teacher!!! I have been Rafael’s student for the past year, could not recommend highly enough. His teaching method is both effective and incredibly engaging, which has allowed my guitar skills to improve significantly in a short amount of time. He helped me learn a wide variety of songs while always ensuring the process was enjoyable.
Rafael is a great teacher, and I've enjoyed learning guitar with him. I could see a huge improvement on my playing since the first lesson. He helped me unblock some concepts that made me understand the fundamentals of music theory, using genres and songs that I used to listen to. I'm seeing real progress!
